Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma led a Senate floor effort this week to advance a package of pro-life measures, but Senate Democrats objected to each bill, preventing the measures from passing by unanimous consent, according to a June 25 press release from his office.

According to the release, Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., chairman of the Senate Values Action Team, led an effort to advance legislation protecting unborn children with Down syndrome and protect the conscience rights of health care workers who object to participating in abortions.

The measures were brought to the Senate floor on the fourth anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

In the release, Lankford said the Democrats blocked the legislation despite what he described as an ongoing national conversation about whether the nation's founding principles and rights apply equally to every human person.

"I think we should continue the conversation," he said, "the dialog that's been going on for 250 years to determine does life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness apply to all of us. Are all people created equal, or are some people more equal than others?"

According to the release, other legislation included the Protecting Individuals with Down Syndrome Act, the Protect Funding for Women's Health Care Act, the Promoting Human Flourishing in Foreign Assistance Act, the Pregnant Students' Rights Act, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, and the SAVE Moms and Babies Act of 2026.
