Struck with terror and clarity, she repented completely, entrusting herself to the Virgin Mary. She immediately crossed the Jordan and spent nearly fifty years alone in the desert, enduring hunger, exposure, and intense spiritual combat.
When finally encountered by the monk Zosimas, Mary radiated holiness, spoke Scripture by heart, and lived entirely detached from the world she had once devoured. Her story confronts modern assumptions about identity and inevitability.
