Washington Examiner: Traditional Christianity offers Gen Z doctrinal, aesthetic purity

A recent video from the Washington Examiner posited that the reason Gen Z is increasingly converting to traditional forms of Christianity, including Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and reformed Protestant denominations, is that these forms of Christianity offer both doctrinal and aesthetic purity.

The video shared data from the Pew Research Center underscoring the prevalence of young Catholics: While 19% of American adults identify as Catholic, and 14% are between 18–29 years of age, only 8% of US adults identify as Baptist, and among these 12% are between 18–29.

While many mainline Protestant denominations maintain traditional liturgies and aesthetics, these same denominations tend to embrace radically progressive beliefs, such as affirming LGBT lifestyles, according to Richard Ackerman, host of the YouTube channel Redeemed Zoomer.

In contrast, nondenominational Protestant churches tend to maintain traditional doctrinal beliefs and social teachings, but their services became extremely modern.

Catholicism and Orthodoxy offer both traditional beauty and aesthetics, as well doctrine in line with the biblical tradition, Ackerman continued.

The video also stated that Gen Z is plagued with a mental health crisis, and more traditional forms of Christianity offer converts “more stable theology.”

“We have a very pessimistic view of human nature,” Ackerman said, “but a very optimistic view of God’s grace, especially in reformed theology.”

Thus, he explained, these traditional forms of theology recognize the brokenness of human nature.

“We’re all desperately dead in sin,” he said, “but God’s grace can transform absolutely anyone.”
